Program overview

Nag Tibba Trek from Dehradun

Nag Tibba Trek is one of the accessible Himalayan treks from Dehradun, making it a good choice for a short mountain escape without requiring several days away from the city. The journey begins with a drive through Mussoorie and Kempty Falls before reaching Pantwari village, where the trail begins.

From Pantwari, the trek gradually climbs through the landscape towards the campsite around Nag Mandir / Kathian. The first evening is deliberately slower, giving you time to settle into camp, enjoy the surroundings and prepare for the early summit push the following morning.

The second day begins well before sunrise. The trail leads through dense forest towards Nag Tibba Top, where, if conditions are clear, the early morning light opens up views towards snow-covered Himalayan peaks including Bandarpoonch and Swargarohini. After spending time at the summit, the route returns to the campsite and then descends to Pantwari before the drive back to Dehradun.

THE JOURNEY

How the Trek Unfolds

The Nag Tibba Trek begins with an early drive from Dehradun and finishes back in the city on the second evening. The trail itself is relatively short, but the early summit start makes the second day a full mountain experience.

Drive | Approx. 90 km | 3.5–4 hours

Leave Dehradun early in the morning, around 6:00 AM, and drive towards Pantwari village via Mussoorie and Kempty Falls. After reaching Pantwari, stop for a meal before beginning the trek.

Trek | Approx. 4–5 km

From Pantwari, the trail climbs gradually towards the base camp / Nag Mandir–Kathian campsite at approximately 2,200–2,300 metres. The first day’s walk is a steady uphill trail, allowing you to settle into the rhythm of the mountains.

Reach the campsite in the evening, where you can relax, enjoy snacks and take in the sunset before dinner and an overnight stay in tents.

Early start | Around 3:00 AM

The day begins early for the summit push. The trail heads through dense forest towards Nag Tibba Top, at approximately 3,022–3,084 metres / 9,915 ft.

The aim is to reach the summit around sunrise, when clear conditions can reveal views towards snow-capped Himalayan peaks such as Bandarpoonch and Swargarohini.

Descent

After spending time at the summit, descend back towards the base camp for lunch. From there, continue walking down to Pantwari village.

Return to Dehradun

Your vehicle will meet you at Pantwari for the drive back to Dehradun. Arrival is expected in the late evening, around 8:00–10:00 PM.

Some journeys don’t need many days. They just need enough time to take you somewhere that feels far away.
